The Bold Type: The subway scream that started it all
The most iconic moment of The Bold Type happens within the first ten seconds of the pilot episode. As Kat, Sutton, and Jane find themselves in a subway station, decked out in formal wear, and about to scream their lungs out, the viewers are quickly introduced into just what type of show this will be. Yes, the girls look amazing in their dresses, but it also leaves you wondering how they got to the subway station and why are they yelling at the top of their lungs. Not since Orphan Black have we seen a subway platform be so instrumental in storytelling.
The episode would rewind, explaining plenty of backstory about the trio, their roles and co-workers at Scarlet magazine, and their current love lives. As the episode goes along, and we learn about the lives and friendship of these three young women, we get the bigger picture of how they ended up at that subway station. These women are fierce, loyal, and smart. These women will be in control of their own destinies.
The scene would continue to be a favorite among The Bold Type viewers, with many imitating the series and posting their own subway screams to social media. The trio would go on to recreate the famous scene in the series finale, as a full-circle moment, wearing coats the same color as their dresses from the pilot episode. This time, they opt for just screaming on the side of the street as a bus whooshes by, signifying how fast the past five seasons have gone.
