For California residents, the hottest ticket in town was a reservation for Disneyland’s Avengers Campus. While the long-awaited, highly anticipated theme park area opened to much fanfare, the Disneyland attraction had some guests wishing that their superpower was time travel. Was a winding queue a cruel Loki trick or some Doctor Strange illusion?

When a new Disney attraction opens, the fanfare hits peak levels. It is more than just a celebration that the California theme park is re-welcoming guests to the magical world of Disney. With the recent opening of the Avengers Campus after almost a year’s postponement, excitement was at even more heightened levels.

As each new visual emerged and detail was confirmed, the Avengers Campus was poised to be a new Comic-Con level experience to the extreme for Marvel fans. Although guests could not don that Spiderman mask themselves, the ability to step into those Marvel Universe locales might be better than sitting through the most coveted panel discussions.

But, as with any new attraction opening, the number of people who want to be there “first” can cause the experience to be a little less super and a lot more anticipation. As seen with opening weekend crowds, the biggest attraction might have been that long line to step into that new “land.”

According to both the Los Angeles Times and Fox, some guests arrived before dawn to stake their claim in the seemingly endless queue. Whether the length was half a mile or double that number, the wandering back and forth might have seemed like the most ardent superhero test. But once they crossed that threshold, guests were marveling at the experience.

What are some of the highlights of Disneyland’s Avengers Campus?

Although comparisons to the Star Wars-themed Galaxy’s Edge are unfair, the Avengers Campus appears less fantasy world and more built into a taste of reality. Just like the superheroes who are said to walk with regular people, the truth is that this land is meant to blend reality and fantasy. It isn’t necessarily about leaving reality behind but accepting that greatness is within anyone’s grasp, if they believe.

Part attractions and part entertainment shows, guests might be unsure where to look first. From Spiderman looking as if he flies through the air to Black Widow battling her nemesis, this area could captivate guests for hours on end (which can lead to other guests patiently waiting for their chance to enter). In many ways, the area was designed to be the perfect backdrop for the most memorable photo op. Needless to say, that Epcot Bubblegum wall picture deserves an epic update.

Of course, the biggest attraction is the SpiderMan web-slinging adventure. Similar to the Rise of the Resistance attraction in Galaxy’s Edge, the board pass system is the only way to secure a coveted ticket. When those passed disappear quickly, guests must fill their time with other amusement.

Luckily, there are many things to see and do. From enjoying a bite at the Pym Test Kitchen to seeing the various live-action sequences, there isn’t a shortage of experiences. Although it doesn’t appear that Disney is limiting the amount of time that guests stay within the area, it might become a possibility. No one wants to spend their day standing in a queue only to never even get a glimpse of Black Panther.

With Disneyland set to open to non-California residents soon, the demand for access to the Avengers Campus will continue to grow. As seen by the quest to get a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance or the lines for the Avatar banshee ride, fans are willing to wait and wait to experience these magical moments.
