Title for second book in Sarah J. Maas’ Crescent City series revealed
By Lacy Baugher
The forthcoming second installment in Sarah J. Maas Crescent City series is probably the most anticipated book on every adult contemporary fantasy fan’s reading list. The first, titled Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood, released in early 2020, and the second was originally scheduled to drop in November of 2021. Now, thanks to the pandemic and the assorted related delays that have pushed back release dates throughout publishing, we won’t see it on shelves until January 2022, almost two full years after the first novel’s release.
On the plus side, though, we finally know what the next book will be called! Many savvy readers had likely already guessed that the title of Book 2 would likely mirror the first, reflecting one of the other four houses of Midgard.
But it’s official now, Book 2 is: Crescent City: House of Sky and Breath.
Now, what does this tell us about the likely story? Well, the House of Sky and Breath is the rival of the House of Earth and Blood, and encompasses beings such as malakim (i.e. angels), fae and sprites. Bryce, Hunt, Declan, Ruhn, Micah, Isaiah and Naomi are all members of this house.
And, according to the book’s official synopsis, which was also recently released, it looks as though Bryce and Hunt will be pulled in to the ongoing conflict between the ruling celestial Asteri and the rebels trying to overthrow their control of Midgard.
"Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal―they may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds. The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri’s power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels’ plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what’s right. And they’ve never been very good at staying silent."
Though that description seems to be purposefully as bland as possible, it’s still enough to get us all excited for a return to Crescent City!
Are you looking forward to House of Sky and Breath? Do you have any theories about what might happen?
