Summer is a time of escape – whether that means finally taking that vacation you’ve put off for a year now that COVID case numbers are finally starting to get down and people are getting vaccinated or simply spending some quality time poolside or on a shady patio. The point is, we’ve earned a chance to get away from it all for a while, even if it’s only in the pages of a good book. Thankfully, this June there is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to science fiction and fantasy releases, and they’re all heading to a bookstore near you.

June is always a big release month in the world of publishing, and that’s because the industry is well aware of summer break and how that can drive audiences to try new titles. So, to say we’re spoiled for choice this month is a bit of an understatement.

Not only is there a brand new timey-wimey romance from Red, Hot, and Royal Blue author Casey McQuinston and a new entry in Susan Dennard’s bestselling Witchlands series, there are new titles from writers like Empire of Sand author Tasha Suri and Kalynn Bayronn, who gave us Cinderella is Dead last year.

There are also several of the year’s buzziest debuts heading to shelves in June, including Hannah Whitten’s For the Wolf and Ava Reid’s The Wolf and the Woodsman. (Wolves are so hot right now, is what I’m saying.)

Here are 16 June science fiction and fantasy releases that are worth your time.

From epic fantasy to twisty, futuristic science fiction, there’s truly something for everyone this month.

Here are 16 of our picks for must-read science fiction and fantasy titles coming to a book store near you this June.
