Summer TV: The Republic of Sarah

Platform: The CW

Release Date: June 14

Cast: Stella Baker, Luke Mitchell, Megan Follows, Izabella Alvarez, Landry Bender

Premise: This new drama series from The CW, The Republic of Sarah, centers around the town of Greylock, New Hampshire, and its inhabitants as they face off against a greedy mining company who is planning on wiping the town out in order to extract a valuable mineral. Sarah Cooper (Baker) is a rebellious yet loyal high school teacher who leads the fight against the external force that threatens to destroy her beloved hometown.

In an interesting twist, the government ultimately decides that Greylock isn’t–and never was– part of the United States of America, with the town now becoming a new nation all on its own. Sarah and her allies must now deal with an even more daunting undertaking: building a country from scratch. From the looks of the trailer, this show seems to be in the vein of such quirky past dramas as Northern Exposure and Picket Fences.
