Stranger Things 4 teaser brings fans back to Eleven’s past
Most viewers expect to see the Stranger Things gang grow up during the show’s upcoming fourth season, but Netflix’s newly released teaser is taking us back in time. Focusing on Eleven’s past in the Rainbow Room, the new footage doesn’t reveal much about how Eleven’s history will factor into the new episodes. It does, however, suggest Dr. Brenner could make a comeback in Stranger Things 4 — and possibly some of Eleven’s siblings as well.
Although Stranger Things 3 didn’t focus too heavily on Eleven’s past — or the fact that there are other kids with similar abilities out there, something we learned back in season 2 — it makes sense they’d return to such a pivotal storyline in the future, especially if there’s a way to tie it into the fourth season’s other mysteries. Among those mysteries is the loss of Eleven’s powers, which could very well be our reason for returning to the Rainbow Room after all this time.
The new teaser takes on an eerie tone, showing how the kids occupied themselves in the Rainbow Room (is that a Magic 8-Ball we see?) right before shifting to Dr. Brenner promising he has something “very special planned” for the gang. The final moments zoom in on Eleven’s room as her breathing becomes faster and louder, and the teaser ends on Brenner asking, “Eleven, are you listening?”

This look at Stranger Things 4 is quite a bit different than the show’s previous teaser, which revealed that Jim Hopper is, in fact, alive after closing the gateway to the Upside Down. That footage hinted that fans would learn more about the Russian scientists we saw at the end of the third season and their experiments with the Demogorgons (along with how Hopper got to Russia in the first place).
Netflix’s new teaser promises to tie Eleven’s background into that storyline, potentially bringing together all the pieces that were introduced way back during Stranger Things‘ first season. Could her powers be connected to the other world somehow? It seems probable.
There’s still no word on when Stranger Things 4 will arrive on the streamer, but a recent filming update from Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin on the show, suggests it could be a while before we understand the full meaning of these teasers.
Until then, we’ll be left to do what fans do best: speculate!
