Green Lantern: Finn Wittrock suits up as Guy Gardner in stunning new image

Finn Wittrock is set to take on the role of Guy Gardner in HBO Max’s Green Lantern and we’ve now been given our first chance to see what he could look like in the role.
With production nearing its start, HBO Max’s highly anticipated Green Lantern series from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV has found its first Green Lantern with the casting of American Horror Story actor Finn Wittrock.
As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, Wittrock has been cast in the role of DC hero Guy Gardner, who will be one of several Green Lantern characters set to play a role in the high profile DC Comics-inspired series along with fellow Lanterns Alan Scott and Bree Jarta.
Wittrock becomes the first actor attached to the series, which will mark his first foray into the superhero genre and he couldn’t have picked a better vehicle for entering the DC Comics Universe!
Who is Guy Gardner in DC Comics?
Guy Gardner made his DC Comics debut back in 1968 in Green Lantern #59 and is regarded as a top member of the Green Lantern Corps.
In the comics, Guy was the second Lantern to hail from Earth and is known for his strong willpower and refusal to ever back down from a threat. He also just so happens to have a reputation for being more than a little obnoxious at times and as a bit of a wild card.
According to the character description for the HBO Max series, it seems Greg Berlanti will look to remain true to the character’s origins with the show’s Gardner described as “a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable.”

Although we’ll likely have to wait sometime before HBO Max and Warner Bros. unveil any official promotional images for the show including our first official look at Wittrock in character, thanks to one talented artist’s concept art we have our first glimpse at what Finn Wittrock could look like as Guy Gardner!
Inspired by Wittrock’s casting in the role, artist britedit has unveiled a jaw-dropping first look at what the American Horror Story actor could look like in the HBO Max series, and let’s just say we’re even more excited to see what HBO Max has in store after seeing Wittrock suit up in Guy’s iconic Lantern suit.
Pulling inspiration directly from the comics, the concept art envisions what Wittrock could look like as Guy Gardner in the Green Lantern series should HBO Max choose to remain true to the character’s comic book suit.
If there was any doubt among fans as to whether Wittrock was the right choice for the role, this incredible concept art should help to quickly clear those concerns up. Not only has the art proven Wittrock looks the part, but anyone who has followed his work can attest to how incredibly talented Wittrock is and what he’ll bring to the table as the cocky, yet loveable Green Lantern.
HBO Max’s Green Lantern season 1 release date
At this time, HBO Max has not announced when the first season of its live-action Green Lantern series will debut; however, it’s looking unlikely the series will premiere in 2021.
While HBO Max has not revealed how long production on the show’s first season is expected to last, we do know that filming isn’t expected to begin until this spring. Should the show follow a standard production timeline, it’s likely shooting would take place for a few months and then we’d be looking at an additional few months for post-production — which is expected to be extensive given the special effects likely to go into creating its fictional world.
As such, it’s expected the earliest Green Lantern season 1 could premiere would be sometime in 2022.
