The stakes have been getting higher as The CW’s Batwoman enters the latter half of its second season, and the show’s most recent episode ended with a particularly interesting development: Sophie discovering who’s been wearing the suit since Kate disappeared.

It’s unclear what Sophie will do with the information that Ryan is Batwoman, but it could present a problem for Gotham’s newest caped crusader — especially if she decides to tell the Crows. Judging by this week’s synopsis, that’s a very real possibility:

"“Ryan is faced with a difficult decision that could expose her as Batwoman; Black Mask’s plans for Kate Kane begin to unfold; Alice is reunited with someone from her past; Sophie must decide where her loyalty lies.”"

Of course, Sophie may think twice about revealing Ryan’s identity after her confrontation with Jacob during “Arrive Alive.” Her interactions with her newly introduced colleague, Agent Russell Tavaroff, aren’t much warmer. And that’s not to mention that Sophie knows about Ryan’s criminal record — and how much trouble she could face if she’s exposed.

The description for Batwoman season 2 episode 12, “Initiate Self-Destruct,” also suggests there could be another threat to Ryan’s secret identity. It doesn’t specify whether that’s wrapped up in Sophie’s revelation or not, but it seems Ryan will have some difficult choices to make about her new career as a vigilante.

In addition to the drama surrounding Ryan’s identity, it looks like Black Mask will get more screen time this week. With Kate and Angelique in his clutches, he’s shaping up to be the show’s most fearsome villain. Judging by the synopsis, fans will finally get some insight into why he’s holding Kate captive in the first place. (Could we also get a peek at Wallis Day in the role? Fingers crossed.)

With so much on the line, Batwoman fans won’t want to miss out on this week’s episode. We’ll have to stay up a little later to tune in, however, as the series is moving to the 9 p.m. ET time slot to make room for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow at 8 p.m.
