Falcon and the Winter Solider: Anthony Mackie becomes Captain America in stunning new image

Fans are eager to see Anthony Mackie suit up as Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale and it’s not hard to see why!

From the moment The Falcon and the Winter Soldier first premiered on Disney Plus one of the biggest burning questions on the minds of viewers has been when exactly Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson might finally take up the Captain America mantle.

Considering Steve Rogers had gifted him with his iconic shield when we last saw Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, the assumption from many going into the Disney Plus original was that we’d witness Mackie suit up as the MCU’s new Captain America relatively quickly. However, Marvel threw a few unexpected curveballs Sam’s way which derailed his path to becoming the new Captain America.

Of course, the biggest curveball came right out of the gate when Sam decided to hand Steve’s shield over to the government thinking it would be placed on display as part of an exhibit honoring Steve’s legacy. Instead, the government handed it over to its new Captain America, John Walker, who proved to be a major thorn in Sam and Bucky’s side.

After a series of unfortunate events, Walker was stripped of the shield and his title as Captain America with Sam reclaiming ownership in the penultimate episode of the season. It was in this episode, Marvel seemed to confirm Sam would suit up as Cap in the season finale when Bucky Barnes gifted him with a mysterious briefcase containing what fans presume to be his Captain America suit — a suit forged into existence by the Wakandans.

What could Anthony Mackie’s Captain America suit look like?

Although we’ll have to wait until the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier drops April 23 on Disney Plus to see exactly what direction Marvel takes Sam Wilson’s Captain America suit, artist M.Design34 has given fans their first look at what Anthony Mackie could look like when suiting up as the new Captain America.

Clearly inspired by the leaked Marvel Select figure which seemed to give fans their first glimpse at Sam’s Captain America suit, M.Design34 brought the toy to life with their jaw-dropping concept art which is sure to leave fans even more excited to see Sam finally take up the Captain America mantle.

In the incredible new image, Mackie’s Falcon suit gets a major update in a design that beautifully blends together elements of his Falcon suit with Captain America’s iconic suit. While the suit stays true to Sam’s Falcon suit’s overall design including its mechanical wings, this particular version of the suit leans heavily into the red, white and blue Captain America color scheme with the end result being a striking ensemble that celebrates both heroes.

Although we’ll have to wait to see the exact design of Sam’s new Captain America suit when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale arrives on April 23, if the suit Marvel has whipped up is anything like the one M.Design34 envisioned in his design fans are in for quite a treat!
