Riverdale Queer Watch season 5 episode 10: What comes next?
Welcome to Riverdale Queer Watch, where we look out for the LGBTQ+ folks on The CW’s Riverdale each week. Whether it’s a snuff film or prom night, we’re watching.
After a few weeks that seemed mostly on the rails, Riverdale went fully off track in its midseason finale with an explosive prison break and an apparent alien abduction.
Aside from a few brief moments in the mayhem (Kevin wielding a machete!), there wasn’t a lot of queer content in this week’s episode, so we’ll instead look ahead and see what stories are left unresolved in the three-month hiatus to come.
Riverdale: Cheryl’s Maple Madness
As last seen in this episode, there’s a renewed interest in the Blossom’s maple farm from Hiram Lodge, the first we’ve heard about it in a long time. Perhaps this means Cheryl will start paying attention to her family’s business again instead of trying to be a fake art dealer.
Of course, her mom is also newly broken out of prison, adding a potential wrinkle to Cheryl’s plans that will make for some syrupy drama.
Riverdale: Toni’s Baby Blues
We haven’t seen Toni since Cheryl’s disastrous key party when she basically dumped Cheryl once and for all after Cheryl ruined all of Toni’s plans to raise her baby with Kevin and Fangs.
Because the actress who plays Toni, Vanessa Morgan, was very much pregnant in real life during filming, it makes sense to have Toni quietly fade out on “bed rest.” But still, many questions remain about her baby.
While Toni had been planning to raise her baby with Kevin and Fangs, their relationship seems to be up in the air right now, to say the least. Will Toni raise her baby alone? Or will she have an eleventh-hour reconciliation with Cheryl?
Worse yet, will Riverdale feel the need to give us a ridiculous and campy birth scene? I certainly hope not, but it will be intriguing to see what it’s like to have the next generation of Riverdale kids around.
Riverdale: RIP Kevin and Fangs?
Last we saw of Kevin and Fangs, they were in pseudo couples counseling with Cheryl. While Kevin is finally confronting his deep-rooted issues of internalized homophobia, we don’t yet know whether he’s shared this realization with Fangs and if the two have reconciled.
As usual, the writers have left viewers with plenty of questions to ponder over the midseason finale hiatus. Here’s hoping we come back to a Riverdale full of answers and maybe even some more queerness and queer characters! But maybe that’s too much to ask for with a mothman lurking.
