1. Lavelle singing when he falls in love with Mirembe

Coming 2 America was phenomenal when it came to drawing parallels with the storyline and sequences between the first and second installment. One that would have been next level would have been a somewhat modern take on Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler) singing when he realized he fell in love with the royal groomer, Mirembe (Nomzamo Mbatha).

One of the iconic scenes on Coming to America is when Prince Akeem roamed around the streets of New York at night singing Jackie Wilson’s “To Be Loved” after his first kiss with Lisa. There was a moment where this could have been recreated with Lavelle after his first kiss with Mirembe. From there, Lavelle could have sung a modern-day song out loud while roaming outside around his Zamunda kingdom’s residence. A modern-day song choice or even Lavelle singing a gem like Eddie Murphy’s 1993 track “Desdamona” would have been a great touch in this scenario.

With that said, this film did gift the audience with an awesome musical performance to the tune of the late Prince’s “Get Off.” The nod to Murphy and Arsenio Hall’s friend Prince was a great tribute and the choreography and overall execution are truly worthy of award recognition for best musical performance scene.

Overall, this film was an excellent 4-star comedy film that is much needed in 2021. These were four components that may have enhanced this wonderful film and outside of possibly bringing Cuba Gooding Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson back in the fold, who also appeared in the first installment, the aforementioned four components were the most logical and impactful scenarios that could have been added to make this the perfect sequel.
