Sony took its time announcing the PlayStation Plus games for March 2021. Many people thought the company would announce them during Thursday’s State of Play, but nothing was said.

Thankfully, they didn’t keep us waiting for too long. And really, the wait was probably worth it.

Here are your free games for the month of March:

  • Final Fantasy VII: Remake
  • Remnant: From the Ashes

Check out the announcement trailer below:

If you have a PlayStation 5, you’ll also have access to the brand new Maquette, a first-person puzzler game. There’s not much known about it aside from a trailer, but if you have a PS5, I’d check it out for sure. (Plus it’s voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel!)

And if you have PlayStation VR, you have access to Farpoint. It’s a first person shooter where you get to free-roam a hostile alien planet. That doesn’t sound terrifying for VR at all, right?

Really, Sony is pulling no punches, because Final Fantasy VII: Remake only came out last year and was one of the hottest, biggest games of the year. And if you’re a PlayStation Plus member, you get it for free in March.

Fans have been clamoring for the remake since they announced it back in 2013. And as it came out at the start of quarantine, it was the perfect time to fully engross yourself in a video game. The graphics are amazing and the voice acting is top-notch.

If you didn’t play this when it came out, take the opportunity to give it a chance now. I went into it knowing nothing about the original Final Fantasy VII and enjoyed the heck out of it. It’s a great story and fun RPG gameplay.

The other offering is Remnant: From the Ashes, a Dark Souls-inspired shooter. It might be more frustrating than a Souls game just because it’s randomized and the payoff doesn’t always feel as sweet as playing Dark Souls. But the randomization of bosses makes every playthrough that much more unique.

Plus the visuals of the various environments are stunning, even despite being creepy at times. And the combat, while very gun-heavy, is some of the best combat I’ve played in a while.

And one last update! Sony has updated it so that Destruction AllStars is available through April 5 for PlayStation 5 owners — so, if you didn’t download it last month, check it out!
