Why Harry Potter and Hermione Granger would have worked as a couple
Harry Potter and Hermione Granger ended up being friends throughout the series but here’s the thing: They should have been a couple.
For the most part, the ship wars of the Harry Potter fandom have come and gone. We don’t fight anymore and what we did wish the series gave us is over and done with. But it’s sometimes fun to look back at the franchise and remember why we loved a certain couple.
With Harry and Hermione, they honestly did deserve to end up together. The two friends were a better match together than with their respective spouses and it just felt like they didn’t end up together because everyone needed to be married off and Ron couldn’t have just…gone with Lavender Brown or had Ginny date Neville (which made more sense).
More than that, Harry and Hermione just worked. And they still do in Cursed Child. They understand each other in a way that doesn’t really work between Ginny and Harry or Ron and Hermione.
Still, that’s not who they chose. And while it is frustrating because Harmony did seem like the better choice, it is what is canon. That doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun though! Fanfiction exists and is beautiful and exploring that couple in our own way works.
Hermione Granger might be Harry Potter’s best friend but there was something there that could have blossomed into something more. Instead, she ended up with Ron and they seem happy together so at least we know that these characters love the lives they got to lead after leaving Hogwarts. Even if it wasn’t the couple we wanted.
