Everything That Burns – Gita Trelease
Everything That Burns is actually a sequel to the 2019 YA fantasy novel Enchantee. Originally titled Liberte, it like its predecessor went through a title change in the months since the first novel in the series was published. (Enchantee is now titled All That Glitters.) The novel has gone through its fair share of coronavirus pandemic-related publication delays but now, almost two years after Enchantee/All That Glitters was published, its sequel will finally see the light of day.
This story sounds quite a bit different than its predecessor as well. Where the first novel followed Camille as she used her magic to pass as nobility in order to make money to protect her sister, the second sees our heroine become something of a resistance leader.
With both danger and revolution in the air throughout Paris, Camille begins printing pamphlets in support of a variety of subversive topics and tells the stories of the young girls whose lives are in danger of being destroyed by a city in turmoil.
The official synopsis describes the story in more detail.
"Camille Durbonne gambled everything she had to keep her and her sister safe, and now the Vicomtesse de Seguin seeks a new life in Paris. But revolution roils the bloody streets and “aristocrat” is a dangerous word. Safety may no longer be possible. Following in her father’s footsteps, Camille prints revolutionary pamphlets, sharing the stories of girls."
Everything That Burns is available on February 2.
