Fear The Walking Dead raised the bar in the first half of season 6 and based on the information that’s been dropped about the upcoming second half of the season the show is poised to turn up the intensity even more.

AMC announced that Fear The Walking Dead season 6B will officially premiere on Sunday, April 11.

This is the first network confirmation of an April premiere, but fans suspected the show would likely return following the last of the six bonus episodes of The Walking Dead. Be sure to set a reminder because this is definitely a mid-season premiere you won’t want to miss.

New cast members were also confirmed for the second half of the season. Previews around the mid-season finale showed that the survivors are going to be facing a wild new threat far worse than anyone they have encountered before and the three new cast members announced today are part of that threat.

The new cast members are John Glover, Nick Stahl, and Keith Carradine. Even if you don’t recognize their names chances are good you’ll recognize their faces. 6B also has a first-time guest director, Aisha Tyler, who directed episode 613.

The AMC press release gave the official synopsis for Fear TWD 6B as follows.

"“As Morgan’s bid to free the remaining members of the group becomes bolder, Virginia grows increasingly desperate to find her sister and protect the settlements from forces working inside and outside her walls. The second half of Season 6 reveals the impact of what living under Virginia’s control has done to each person in this group, who once saw themselves as a family. New alliances will be formed, relationships will be destroyed, and loyalties forever changed. When everyone is forced to take sides they discover the meaning of ‘The End Is the Beginning’”."

It looks like Alpha and the Whisperers from The Walking Dead aren’t the only cult-like group that has adopted a death-centered ideology in the post-apocalypse world.

Fear The Walking Dead is going even darker

Fans have known since the mid-season finale that the second half of the season was going to go seriously dark based on the preview that aired after the mid-season finale:

The preview features a voice-over and first look at John Glover, holding Alicia hostage and up to no good. It also looks like there will be some type of Negan-esque lineup that the survivors are forced into, although it’s likely that this lineup won’t end up scarring fans forever the way that the Negan’s lineup did. R.I.P. Glenn and Abe. We still miss you.

The first half of Fear TWD season 6 won praise from fans and critics for the amped-up production values, the new look, and the anthology format of the episodes which made the stories being told cohesive and compelling. Season 6A was surprisingly gritty and dark, but based on the previews and some cryptic tweets it seems that 6B is going to double down on the dark horror.
