10 of our most anticipated films at Sundance 2021
Sundance Film Festival: Together Together
On the lighter side of this year’s Sundance fare is Together Together from writer-director Nikole Beckwith. The film follows two people who become inexplicably tied to each other via surrogacy: When 26-year-old Anna becomes a gestational surrogate to a single, middle-aged app designer named Matt, she expects only a transactional bit of good karma and the payday that will allow her to finish her college degree.
But Matt’s enthusiasm for impending parenthood leads him to persistently insert himself into her life and invite her into his, and the initially annoyed Anna finds herself reluctantly charmed. The pair of self-described loners gradually open up to each other, give in to the intimacy of their admittedly finite shared experience, and forge an unlikely friendship.
With Ed Helms as Matt, newcomer Patti Harrison as Anna, and also starring Culturess-favorite Tig Notaro, Together Together premieres on January 31st at 2 pm central time.
Sundance Film Festival: Ma Belle, My Beauty
From first-time director, Marion Hill comes one of the steamier films on our most anticipated list: Ma Belle, My Beauty.
The film follows newlywed musicians Bertie and Fred, who are adjusting to their new life in the beautiful countryside of France. It’s an easy transition for Fred, the son of French and Spanish parents, but New Orleans native Bertie grapples with a nagging depression that is affecting her singing. But when Lane—the quirky ex who disappeared from their three-way relationship years ago—suddenly shows up for a surprise visit, she brings new energy to the relationship and some baggage of her own.
Described as a ‘tipsy’ and ‘moody’ dive into polyamory, Ma Belle, My Beauty premieres on January 30th at 5 pm central time.
