John Krasinski to host Saturday Night Live opener in COVID-19 do-over
John Krasinski is coming back to host the mid-season premiere of Saturday Night Live in a do-over that will make up for the show he was originally supposed to host in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Krasinski will be joined by musical guest Machine Gun Kelly when SNL returns on January 30.
The timing of Krasinski’s appearance on SNL is somewhat ironic. He was supposed to appear on the show in March 2020 to promote the release of A Quiet Place II, but the pandemic forced the movie to be rescheduled for April 2021.
That would have made his January 30 hosting do-over perfect, but just this week Paramount announced that the movie is on the move again, this time to September 17 in hopes that the pandemic will be under control.
Krasinski has been keeping busy during the pandemic, developing his Some Good News web series to help brighten the spirits of pandemic-weary people all over the world. It was such a huge hit that the concept was purchased by ViacomCBS so that the show could keep bringing people happy news through dark times.
John Krasinski To Host Saturday Night Live on January 30
Saturday Night Live has been on a break over the holidays, so the January 30 mid-season premiere will be a chance to see the cast settling in for the early days of the Biden-Harris Administration. Given the Bernie Sanders meme and Al Gore beaming in from the Moon, both of which became viral inauguration moments, the SNL cast will no doubt have plenty of new material to work with.
The January 30 show will mark the first of five new episodes. Some of the hosts and musical guests include Dan Levy with Phoebe Bridgers and Regina King with Nathaniel Rateliff. Guest hosts and musical guests for the February 20 and 27 episodes of Saturday Night Live have yet to be announced.
