Singer Katharina Boger opens up to Culturess in a Q&A discussing what she’s learned in 2020, her recent projects, and her “Dangel” motto.

Pop singer Katharina Boger leaps into 2021 with her first interview with Culturess.

The bilingual singer, who is fluent in German, Russian, and English, is coming off the heels of releasing her “Want Me Back” music video that eclipsed over 200,000 viewers on YouTube.

She’s also been streamed over a million times during the 2020 calendar year. The Los Angeles-based musician has shown no signs of slowing down and has rather found ways to continue making progress with her music career even during the pandemic.

Culturess: Katharina Boger, thank you so much for this interview, and congrats on surpassing the 1 million streams mark on Spotify this past New Year’s Day. What does this accomplishment mean to you?

Katharina Boger: I‘m very grateful about each stream and I hope people are gonna fall in love deeper and deeper with my lyrics and my music. And maybe I get the chance to share it with even more people this way.

It means a lot to me ‘cause as an artist, you try to share your experiences, thoughts, and feelings with your audience and try to motivate and go through experiences together to become stronger! And I really love my fans my little ‘Dangel Gang.’

Culturess: Worldwide, the year 2020 brought on so many challenges. What have you learned from the past year and what are some of your goals for 2021?

Boger: Well, 2020 was a tough year but it taught me together we can go through every difficult moment!

Me and my fans tried to motivate each other to stay strong and positive. My team and I also had to deal with a lot of challenges to keep it all going and to work on new projects, but all of these things made us even stronger and we are already working on bigger [things] for this year.

In 2021 I’m going to release a new song, we will work on more visual stuff, and as soon as it’s possible we plan to work on a tour around the world to meet all of my supporters and to give them a good moment on stage!

Culturess: When did you realize music was a career you wanted to pursue?

Boger: I think nothing ignites the same fire in me or completes my life that much like music does. To entertain people and to see them smile, to motivate them with my lyrics and my music not only to strive for the ‘good’ but also for the ‘better’ — to share positive moments, humor and fun. To touch people who find themselves in my lyrics. To break a lot of limits and boundaries without hurting anybody. This is how I love to be and what music is to me – limitless!

I can’t imagine that there is anything else in life that could be even better — music was never just a choice, music is all I’ve ever wanted!

Culturess: Are there any musicians that inspired your style of music?

Boger: I guess I’m always inspired by talented people. They don’t need to be famous, they just need to be good in all they do. Watching and listening to artists, how they use their voice and lyrics to talk with their audience — this is my drug.

Plus, if they are good at moving their bodies to the beat,  it’s fantastic. All I can say is, talent is everywhere. Watch them, learn a little bit from all of them, and put everything together [with] who you are.

Culturess: I took a peak at your music video “Want Me Back” the other day. Amazing video, I absolutely love the locations and the color palette. I also saw that you co-directed this video. What inspired your vision for the visual and were there any challenges making your vision come to life?

Boger: Yeah, it was really a challenge to bring it all to the table! Planning and shooting a video like this during a pandemic is crazy.

Culturess: Wow, shooting during a pandemic? How did your team overcome that?

Boger: “It was tough but a great experience too. We had to be very careful but we found a lot of creative people who supported us to make everything happen.

Culturess: Was the color scheme a creative choice by you?

Boger: Yeah, I picked the colors purple and white ‘cause I’m a Dangel :). White stands for my little angel and purple for the sassy devil inside of me.

Location wise, I was so thankful to find people who loved this project, opened their doors for us, and just let us in without charging anything. They did everything to help us to shoot this video in the best possible way. Again, thanks to all who were part of this video and also to all who are going to work with me in the near future! Without all these big hearts and trust, everything would be so much harder. We all need some believers. Thanks for so much love!

Culturess: When I hear the lyrics to “Want Me Back” I can’t help but think you must have experienced someone trying to win you back after a breakup. Am I right?

Boger: My heart is always with me so if this guy is not exactly next to me, I guess he didn’t win it back!

“‘Want me Back” is a sassy way to deal with the situation after a breakup. It’s about you leaving someone and you motivating yourself to move on knowing you did a great job with him. You think about how he thinks about you and wants you back unconditionally even while he is in another relationship. I think it’s a good feeling and helps to move on and to find something even better.

It always starts with your mindset and to think this way makes you stronger. And why shouldn’t we think like that, we are the hot s**t! We are Dangels — super nice, goodhearted but always looking for something better [even] if we are just in a “good situation”. We should always keep improving ourselves and never look back!

Culturess:  What are three words you’d use to describe yourself and why?

Boger: I guess I have to create some new words to describe myself better. ‘Dangel’ would be one of them. It describes a nice girl mixed with a sassy little devil.

Limitless is also a good one. I hate limits and try to achieve anything I’m striving for in life without hurting anybody.

This is all I try to do with a lot of humor and without taking myself too seriously. I can also laugh about myself and my mistakes. All I look for in life is improvement and surrounding myself with good and trustworthy people around me. And always:  humor, fun, and new experiences.

Culturess: In a racy Instagram post you wrote, “I want to be the Dangel who makes your bad days better and the one that makes you say, My life has changed since I met her!”

Boger: Yeah, I’m sure after we’ve met in person that wouldn’t be a question anymore!

Culturess: Do you think everyone needs a Dangel in their life?

Yes, we all love a Dangel, we all need good-hearted, taking-care-of-you people around us.

But only being nice is pretty boring. I guess we all love a little bit of spice and action in our life. And that’s what I try to share with my fans and I hope they gonna treat me the same way too.

Culturess: If you could collaborate with any music artist in the world who would
you choose and why?

Boger:  I guess I shouldn’t be that picky! I’m always happy to learn from great people.

So all Rihannas, Justins, Sean Pauls, 50 Cents … feel free to say ‘Hello’ to me! I would be flattered to find amazing collaborations. So you should tell all the music labels to knock on my door. But best to a certain beat, kinda like a Morse code. So I know what they want and are looking for right away.

Culturess: Thank you so much for your time. But before this interview ends, I have
to ask: Will we be seeing the music video to “Have It” release anytime soon?

Boger:  I truly hope so. But, unfortunately, it’s not only in my hands for now. Sometimes people try to fool you. This is the shady side of the industry. But I [am] gonna fight for my material.

I guess we all have to learn from something to become a better human being. This was [one of] the lessons I had to learn.

But I can guarantee I’m going to come up with a lot of new stuff this year. My mom always taught me: ‘if you touch s**t it will smell.’ So I [am] gonna work with flowers only [from] now [on]. Together, with all my supporters, fans, and friends we will have an exciting year ahead of us.
