Dobby the House Elf deserves a lot more than he got in the Harry Potter series
Dobby the House Elf was there for Harry Potter when no one else was but he’s a character who didn’t really get his due time. So, let’s explore why he ruled as a character.
There are so many characters who didn’t get their time in the Harry Potter series but Dobby the House Elf is one of the biggest. A character who dedicated his life to Harry and his protection, Dobby met his end by doing what he loved to do best: Make sure Harry Potter succeeded.
Dobby was the kind of character who didn’t care about what he needed and it’s a greater commentary on the series as a whole but looking at just him as a character, Dobby was strong and independent compared to the other house elves. He was ready to stand up for Harry and ended up gaining his own freedom because of it.
But all that being said: He still deserved more time. What we did see of his was directly connected to Harry. Whenever Harry needed something, then we’d see Dobby but he could have been used more frequently and we could have known more about him.
He’s the kind of character who, like Harry’s friends and those other people who wanted to see him succeed, would do whatever Harry needed. Which is maybe the problem with this series in general. Most of these characters are connected completely to Harry and what he needs and doesn’t really branch out otherwise but even then, we still could have seen more of Dobby and understood him as a character more completely.
