A Quiet Place II quietly moves to a new release date
Paramount is making moves as A Quiet Place II sneaks into a new premiere date as studios continue to shuffle releases around the ongoing pandemic. According to Deadline, John Krasinski’s follow-up to the 2018 hit A Quiet Place has been bouncing around premiere dates thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty swirling around theatrical releases.
A Quiet Place II was originally planned to have a March 2020 release, which was right at the start of the pandemic. With widespread closures, studios started shuffling releases toward 2021 to ensure that they would have the best chance of success.
Even now, there’s no guarantee that movies with fall premieres will stay on the 2021 calendar as the uncertainty continues and vaccine distribution is slower than anticipated.
Some studios have opted to skip 2021 entirely and place their movies in 2022. Paramount could have opted to follow HBO Max and Warner Bros’ plan to release new movies in theaters and on their own streaming service on the same date, which would have made sense with the CBS All Access merger into the newly rebranded Paramount+.
When Will A Quiet Place II Arrive In Theaters?
Instead, it seems as though Paramount has decided – for now – that A Quiet Place II will land in theaters on September 17, 2021.
A Quiet Place II follows the ongoing story of the Abbott family as they struggle to survive without their patriarch (Krasinski). Mom Evelyn (Emily Blunt) is trying to navigate an increasingly dangerous world, one filled with the same threat of terrifying monsters and also the threat that invariably comes from other people who are also trying to survive.
The original film was a smash hit in 2018. Audiences lost their minds at a movie that had very little dialogue and left theaters eerily quiet for the vast majority of the film, saving sound for key jump scares. It was ridiculously simple in execution, but utterly effective in result.
As with the first film, A Quiet Place II is written and directed by Krasinski.
