It’s time to start separating ourselves from the Harry Potter characters we love

The Harry Potter series is one we love but with J.K. Rowling’s unapologetic nature to her transphobic blog post, we have to continue to separate ourselves from it.

The Harry Potter series is something that is so engrained in us as fans that it’s hard to think about how we can’t really openly compare things to it anymore. Part of the reason that the Harry Potter series stays as on top of its game as it has is because fans love to connect back to it.

But with J.K. Rowling’s transphobic blog post, it put into focus how we have to do our part to stop talking about the series and praising the characters we know and love. Sure, that sucks for fans but we shouldn’t openly support something created by someone who refuses to understand how her viewpoints are transphobic.

Bringing up the series over and over again without pointing this out means that people tend to separate the franchise from Rowling. And that’s also not great because she gets to still benefit from us talking about her world without taking any sort of heat from that.

Sirius Black is a character that means the world to me but if I had to chose to never talk about him again to make sure the trans community was better off, I’d do it. It isn’t that dire right this second but continuing to give J.K. Rowling a platform by making Harry Potter relevant is.

With each new day, we need to stop connecting things back to these characters. Start to understand why it’s important we don’t uplift this series because it’s still too connected to J.K. Rowling.

Next. Hagrid and why fans of the Harry Potter series love him a lot. dark

Remember to be kind to one another and look out for each other.
