New year, new books: 15 YA releases to watch out for this January
You Have a Match by Emma Lord
Emma Lord’s Tweet Cute made readers warm and fuzzy (and hungry) a year ago, and she’s back with another romantic story to snuggle up with this winter. Her second novel, You Have a Match, doesn’t just focus on romantic relationships though. It’s also about finding one’s long-lost family through one of those DNA tests that’s become so popular as of late. And that part of the story gives off some serious Parent Trap vibes.
You Have a Match begins when Abby signs up for a DNA test, mostly to impress her best friend and crush, Leo. She doesn’t believe the test will reveal anything about herself that she doesn’t already know — but the test reveals that she actually has an older sister she’s never met. But although they’re close in age, it doesn’t seem Abby and Savannah have much in common — at least not from afar.
Still, you can’t find a long-lost sibling without reaching out, and the two agree to meet up at a summer camp and get to know one another:
"“The logical course of action? Meet up at summer camp (obviously) and figure out why Abby’s parents gave Savvy up for adoption. But there are complications: Savvy is a rigid rule-follower and total narc. Leo is the camp’s co-chef, putting Abby’s growing feelings for him on blast. And her parents have a secret that threatens to unravel everything.”"
Judging by the synopsis, the summer camp plan sounds a bit disastrous. But could it bring Abby and Savannah closer together? Find out when You Have a Match arrives on January 12.
