New year, new books: 15 YA releases to watch out for this January
A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer
January is typically a time for new beginnings, but readers will need to make an exception as they bid farewell to Brigid Kemmerer’s A Vow So Bold and Deadly. The final installment in her Cursebreakers series, the book opens with Emberfall split and on the verge of collapse. The reason for this is because some believe Rhen should remain prince of the kingdom’, while others are more inclined to entrust their home to its rightful heir: Grey.
Grey intends to attack Emberfall if Rhen doesn’t step down, which leads Rhen to pull inward, avoiding everyone including Harper, who desperately wants to help.
And Harper isn’t the only one struggling. While Rhen and Grey feud over Emberfall, Lia Mara questions her ability to reign over Syhl Shallow, especially with her subjects questioning her loyalty to an enchanted prince. It seems every character will have difficult decisions to make before this series is through. Even the book’s synopsis hints at some major turns before the end:
"“As two kingdoms come closer to conflict, loyalties are tested, love is threatened, and an old enemy resurfaces who could destroy them all, in this stunning conclusion to bestselling author Brigid Kemmerer’s Cursebreaker series.”"
With so much at stake, it certainly seems the conclusion to Kemmerer’s series will be every bit as dramatic as its description suggests. There’s probably no need to tell fans of the first two books to keep this finale on their radar — but it arrives on January 26, in case anyone needed the reminder.
