The Mandalorian’s second season came to a close to this month — and we’re already thinking about the questions we need answered moving forward.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian‘s second season.

To say The Mandalorian closed out its second season with a bang is probably an understatement. Between the Baby Yoda rescue mission, the duel between Din Djarin and Moff Gideon, and the return of Luke Skywalker, the finale was packed with action and suspense — and that’s after an entire season built upon both of those things.

Of course, although the Disney+ series delivered on multiple fronts, it left the fates of our favorite characters fairly open-ended — meaning there will be a lot to answer whenever the third season of the show arrives. As The Mandalorian heads into a new chapter, Din and Grogu will be facing different conflicts with different stakes.

So, what are some questions we have after watching The Mandalorian‘s second season?

What will become of the Darksaber and Mandalore?

Although Mando didn’t know it at the time, when he won the duel against Moff Gideon and his Darksaber, he won the right to wield that weapon — and thus, the right to claim the throne of Mandalore. There’s not much time to focus on this during the final moments of The Mandalorian‘s second season, but two things are clear: Din certainly didn’t ask for or want this position of power, and Bo-Katan absolutely did.

Whether this development will cause friction between Din and the other Mandalorians remains to be seen. It’s also possible Din will rise to the occasion. Either way, we’re eager to see how this situation plays out.

What’s going to happen to Moff Gideon?

Giancarlo Esposito makes pretty much every series better (especially when he’s playing a villain), so we’re hoping his character gets a long tenure on The Mandalorian. The first two seasons built Moff Gideon up to be the show’s Big Bad, but he was captured while Din and his friends rescued Baby Yoda.

Like the situation surrounding the Darksaber, the finale didn’t delve too deeply into what was next for the villain — one can assume he’ll be imprisoned, which does offer opportunities for him to continue his character arc. (We’re totally not crossing our fingers or anything.)

If Moff Gideon’s storyline is truly done, however, that does lead to another big question…

What will the main conflict of season three be?

With both Din and Grogu heading into new chapters of their lives, the primary conflict of The Mandalorian will need to change course. The first two seasons saw our main character going to great lengths to protect the Child and return him to his people. Now that Grogu is with another Jedi, what will the primary storyline of the show tackle?

It’s likely the mission to retake Mandalore will be the main story for Din’s character. Whether fans will actually get to see the Child and his Jedi training is a question fans have raised, and if the show does decide to show us this journey, that’s another big storyline it could cover.

It’ll be interesting to see how The Mandalorian adapts to a shift in focus. With any luck, it’ll approach its new story arc seamlessly.

Is Baby Yoda’s fate sealed?

When it comes to learning the ways of the Force, Grogu probably couldn’t ask for a better teacher than Luke Skywalker. Of course, being trained by Luke could eventually put our favorite child in a bit of a predicament. Although The Mandalorian is set decades before the sequel trilogy takes place, fans have started to wonder whether Baby Yoda will be around for Kylo Ren’s altercation with Luke, which leads to the death of Luke’s pupils.

Given that the Child doesn’t appear in the sequel films, it’s not a stretch to imagine the poor little guy getting caught up in the destruction of the Jedi academy. However, we wouldn’t assume his fate is sealed just yet. The Mandalorian seems likely to bring Din and Grogu back together at some point down the line — meaning the latter will have to leave the Jedi academy, possibly permanently. (Please, please let him leave before the Kylo thing!)

Will Din and Grogu see each other again?

And speaking of Din and Grogu reuniting, every Mandalorian fan has likely been asking themselves this question since Din took off his helmet and bid farewell to his son in Chapter 16. It seems probable the series will keep viewers on their toes for a while before finally letting these two meet once again. But Mando promised they would, and we’re willing to take him at his word!

(And just think of how adorable it’s going to be when they see each other again.)
