Dudley Dursley and the storyline we could have had in the movies
When it came to the book version of Dudley Dursley, he grew and had a moment with Harry that made their relationship seem strong by the end but we didn’t get to see that in the movies as much.
In the books, Dudley Dursley was not a nice cousin to Harry Potter. But as the series went on, he grew and started to realize that his cousin wasn’t terrible and that his parents weren’t always right. And throughout the years, Dudley grew and trusted his cousin. But we didn’t really get to see it that much on screen.
In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we got to see Dudley and Harry share a brief moment but there is a beautiful story that exists in the books that we never got on screen. Why? There just didn’t seem to be enough time to explore them and Dudley wasn’t really the character to waste time on.
But it is unfortunate because his relationship with Harry was wonderful to track and see how they both grew together as characters. Instead, we were left with two cousins who had to deal with each other and didn’t really get their time to actually share their understanding of one another.
Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon never deserved Harry’s forgiveness but Dudley was a product of his surroundings and watching as he grew and learned that he shouldn’t be the kind of person like his parents were would have been wonderful to see play out in the films. There just wasn’t enough time to actually explore that relationship, unfortunately.
