What’s new in January for Xbox Live Gold members?
Xbox Live Gold lives to see another month of free offerings for subscribers. And this month actually has a few games you’ll want to check out!
Xbox Live Gold members have had a rough couple of months for offerings, that’s for sure. But with the release of the Series X, there was enough excitement to make up for the lackluster options. The good news is that January looks like it might turn things around.
Below are the offerings for January and the dates they’re available to download:
- Little Nightmares, January 1-31
- Dead Rising, January 16 – February 15
- The King of Fighters XIII, January 1-15
- Breakdown, January 16-31

Let’s jump right into it!
First up is Little Nightmares, which is already a great offering because the sequel comes out on February 11. If you’ve yet to play Little Nightmares, it’s the perfect amount of creepy. With gameplay at just over five hours, it won’t take up too much of your time, either. You play as Six inside of the Maw, attempting to leave by whatever means necessary. The creatures you encounter are just weird enough to be creepy and are always trying to eat you. It’s definitely a fun time.
Next up is Dead Rising, which originally came out in 2006. If you’re looking to revisit one of the straight-up action zombie games of the mid-2000s, then you’re in luck! You get to kill thousands and thousands of zombies in more and more ridiculous ways, and the main mall you work your way through is colorful and vibrant and has such a good sense of style to it.
The King of Fighters XIII offers so much more than the twelfth iteration of the game, giving you a story mode, a mission mode, and the traditional one-on-one mode. You have over 30 fighters to choose from. If you’re looking for a straight-up fighter, this is your game for January.
Last up this month is a hidden gem in Breakdown. The worst part about this game are the unwieldy controls, but if you can get past those, you’re in for a treat of a game. Play as amnesiac soldier Derrick Cole, who gets rescued by Alex and they try to escape the scientific facility where he’s being experimented on. The biggest thing about it is how it uses its perspective for the storytelling potential. And the storytelling gets weird. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Don’t forget that you still have access to one of December’s offerings (Bleed 2) through January 15!
