As we’re gearing up for a new Grindelwald, it seems as if Mads Mikkelsen hasn’t even spoken to Johnny Depp about taking on the role in the new Fantastic Beasts movie.

A while ago, the news broke that Johnny Depp would be stepping down from the role of Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series and Mads Mikkelsen would be stepping into the role. But that doesn’t mean that anyone has talked to each other about the change in roles.

According to People magazine, Mikkelsen doesn’t have Depp’s number to talk to him about it and stated “I don’t know him” in response when asked if he’s talked about taking over as Grindelwald. The thing is, there probably shouldn’t be a conversation.

This switch is happening through the studio and a fresh take on Grindelwald is something that the franchise does, frankly, need. So getting to see Mikkelsen take on the role is going to be different and that’s fine and it shouldn’t be some kind of continuation of what Depp was doing.

There is the question of whether or not fans will even support this film and that’s well within their right not to. Even with Mads Mikkelsen taking over, the series is still connected back to J.K. Rowling and benefiting her and the world that she’s building and benefiting from.

So by supporting Fantastic Beasts, they’re giving her money still and that’s not really something a lot of people want to do right now. It will be interesting to see how the future of this series pans out anyway.

J.K. Rowling is applauded for her transphobic blog post by the BBC. This is why we must call her out.. dark. Next
