The Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian premiered this past Friday, and surprisingly had a plot development that was eerily similar to the final Harry potter book.

While most Potter fans are getting ready for Christmas, some were surprised to see The Mandalorian use a plot device for their own McGuffin, the Darksaber.

When Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was able to defeat Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in combat, he drug him back to the brig where the rest of Din’s crew was waiting. Din was ready to give up the Darksaber to Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) who had been searching for the weapon that would make her the true ruler of Mandalore.

However, Gideon went on to explain that because Din had defeated Gideon in combat, the weapon now belonged to Din and that for Bo-Katan to truly wield the weapon, she would have to defeat Din in combat and possibly kill him. Further, it was Din who was the true ruler of Mandalore.

This was almost identical to how the Elder Wand’s allegiance was described in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The wand could only be wielded by the winner of it. Albus Dumbledore had been the rightful owner of it, and the wand was then stolen from his grave by Lord Voldemort.

The weapon would never truly work right for Voldemort, and it was because, right before his death, Draco Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore to become the true owner. Shortly after this, Harry disarmed Malfoy, therefore becoming the true owner of the Elder Wand.

The way this weapon is described could give a roadmap to what has happened in the past with the Darksaber. If Bo-Katan or Gideon wielded the weapon without winning it in combat, then they would not have had what they had in the weapon when going into war. Din will have to fight Bo-Katan now for the rights to the Darksaber, something we never got to see transpire in the Harry Potter series.
