Thinking about Nagini and her storyline in Fantastic Beasts

Nagini is a character that was often written off because she was just Voldemort’s pet snake but the Fantastic Beasts series gave more to her that isn’t exactly a good thing.

For the most part, we know Nagini as the snake that sat at Voldemort’s side and was there for him throughout the entire Harry Potter series but, for whatever reason, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series gave more to her character. Why? It’s not like we were really asking for it but alas, it’s there and there are questions still to be had.

So we’re supposed to stop and love the fact that Nagini was once a woman and now submits her life to the will of these men? First, Creedence Barebone and then eventually Tom Riddle? We’re supposed to think it’s cool that a woman is forced into being a snake?

It’s a bit of a tricky situation though because it did give time to Nagini and give an incredible actress (Claudia Kim) a chance and bringing the character to life in a new way but it also seems like a double-edged sword. We’re watching as a woman loses her agency and herself in order to be destined into a life of being a snake and that’s that.

Maybe something will change and she’ll be a different Nagini by the third Fantastic Beasts movie but until then, we’ll just have to hope that we didn’t watch a woman submit to Voldemort for the entire run of the Harry Potter series because that wouldn’t be awesome and would suck for Nagini as a character.

Next. Harry Potter and the characters that deserved a lot more than they were given. dark
