Exclusive: See the cover and read an excerpt from The Wild Ones by Nafiza Azad
By Lacy Baugher
We can exclusively reveal the cover for William C. Morris Finalist Nafiza Azad’s upcoming feminist fantasy The Wild Ones – and share a sneak peek at the story itself!
Nafiza Azad’s debut novel, The Candle and the Flame, was a finalist for the William C. Morris Award, so we are all already expecting great things from her second. And it certainly sounds as though her upcoming second book The Wild Ones will not disappoint.
This thrilling, feminist fantasy follows a group of immortal teenage girls endowed with special magic. Once abandoned and silenced, each girl joining the group gains the ability to weaponize their screams. As they find strength and support in each other, the girls learn to use their voices – literally and metaphorically – to stand up for themselves and all those who are defenseless against harm.
Truly this sounds like exactly the kind of cathartic YA story we could all use right now.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while to read The Wild Ones for ourselves. (It’s not being released until summer 2021.)
But we can exclusively reveal a first look at the novel’s beautiful cover, which conveys its effortless sense of magic and diversity, as well as a vaguely tropical vibe that feels perfectly escapist at the moment.
The novel is described as We Hunt The Flame-meets-Nowhere Girls, with a cast of young women of color from around the world. You truly love to see it.
The Wild Ones will hit officially hit shelves on August 3, 2021, but you don’t have to wait that long. We’ve got an exclusive excerpt for you right now!
