5 things we want to see in Marvel’s Phase 5

Mutants
With the disappointing box office performance of both Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, it’s understandable that Marvel Studios is a little gun shy about reintroducing the world of the X-Men to the MCU anytime soon.
However, that doesn’t mean that they can’t start planting seeds right now for our band of merry mutants to appear down the road. At 2019’s Comic-Con Kevin Feige did briefly mention “mutants” would be coming soon to the MCU, and it’s probably very important to note that he said “mutants” and not “X-Men.”
It has been rumored that mutants may be created by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff during the events of WandaVision. In the trailers, we see that Wanda will eventually become pregnant, most likely with twins, at some point during the series. In the comics, Wanda indeed gave birth to a pair of twin boys, both of whom were born with mutant powers.
Furthermore, there have been rumors about members of the X-Men appearing by themselves throughout the MCU before coming together and forming the team we’ve come to know and love, similar to how members of the Avengers were introduced before banding together. Early reports state that Rogue is slated to appear as the main villain in Captain Marvel 2, which would be true to the character’s comic book origin. Before Chadwick Boseman’s tragic and untimely death, reports had indicated that Storm could be a part of Black Panther 2 since the two were married for a brief time in the comic books.
Also, while Fox’s The Gifted only ran for two seasons, it did give us some of the better performances in X-Men roles compared to what we had been seeing in the big-budget X-Men films. The show took a more character-driven approach by focusing on a nuclear family that includes two teenagers who suddenly discover they have mutant abilities. Jamie Chung as Blink, Emma Dumont as Polaris, Skyler Samuels as the Stepford Cuckoos, and Blair Redford as Thunderbird were all memorable characters that we wouldn’t mind seeing again, once mutants became a part of the mainstream MCU.
