Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming period drama Bridgerton and it promises to be full of scandal and high society drama.

Upcoming period drama Bridgerton appears to be Gossip Girl in Regency England, with plenty of secret plotting and steamy scenes as we discussed when the previous trailer came out.

The series is created by Chris Van Dusen based on the bestselling series by Julia Quinn. The show, produced by Shonda Rhimes, follows the Bridgerton siblings as they try to navigate the London marriage market.

“All is fair in love and war,” the mysterious Lady Whistledown narrates in this new trailer. Julie Andrews voices the mysterious tastemaker who seems all-knowing and whose approval every young society girl strives for.

Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) is plagued by much older suitors and a lack of interest from the kind of men she likes, but when she literally bumps into her brother’s friend, the eligible bachelor Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), things start to change.

They form a secret arrangement to pretend to be madly in love so that Simon can avoid every marriageable woman continually trying to catch his eye and so that Daphne can attract the attention of the right men. But with chemistry like these two have, it can’t be long before they actually fall in love, of course.

The trailer promises that the show will be full of sexy scenes, gorgeous gowns, and my personal favorite trope – fake dating (or rather, courting?). It currently looks like it may be a bit more like the CW’s Reign than Masterpiece Classic’s Downton Abbey, but it certainly promises to be a good time.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait too much longer to properly meet these characters. Bridgerton will be released on Netflix on December 25, 2020.

Next. Matt Smith (and more) join the cast of House of the Dragon. dark
