As the end of the year looms before us, it’s hard not to think about everything we’ve all been through in the past twelve months. From restricted travel and shifting gathering limits to new home offices and Zoom Thanksgiving dinners, 2020 has been one heck of a challenge for everyone. And now, as we head into the final month of the year, we’re all searching for a little bit of cheer to get us to 2021.
Thankfully, books are here for us, as they always are. And there’s truly never been a better time to be a fan of YA fiction, which includes something for every taste, whether that involves magical high fantasy; dark, twisted thrillers; or stories that uncomfortably mirror real life. (Or that include cults. There are a couple of those this month. It’s apparently a thing. And I’m into it.)
From new stories from favorite authors (Karen McManus) to highly-anticipated series conclusions (Sabaa Tahir) to debuts from exciting new voices (Diana Pinguicha), there’s truly an embarrassment of book riches hitting shelves this month.
Here are our picks for the 10 must-read YA books headed your way this December. Let us know what you’re reading – and if there’s a book we missed on this list!
