Why it is frustrating that Mads Mikkelsen joined the Harry Potter series
Mads Mikkelsen has taken over as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series and it is exciting but also frustrating for fans who don’t want to support the series right now.
For fans of the Harry Potter series who are trying to not give money back to the series, the casting of Mads Mikkelsen can be frustrating. Mainly because a lot of us (myself included) would have loved to see Mikkelsen take on a role in the series.
He would have been a great Grindelwald from the start but I know that I, personally, do not want to give my money and support because it will go back to J.K. Rowling and show that her harmful tweets and writings do not have consequences. So it is frustrating because, as fans, seeing Mikkelsen take on this role would have been perfect.
He brings a different level to his characters and his “villains”. Even with playing Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal, he somehow managed to make us think about Hannibal and his actions and try to understand the character when…we probably shouldn’t. And bringing that layer to Grindelwald would have been exciting to explore.
This isn’t against Mikkelsen, if anything I would love to see Mads Mikkelsen take on the entire series and would watch him do anything. But it is about supporting someone (I.E. Rowling) who has said incredibly harmful things and how we can’t just sit back and say “oh well” and continue to give her a platform and our money.
So, that’s why it is a bit frustrating that Mikkelsen is taking over because it’d be incredible to see but Rowling is still too involved.
