In an effort to stand with J.K. Rowling, John Cleese keeps tweeting about the rampant transphobia that exists online and it is time for John Cleese to maybe put down Twitter.

It is important to call out those actors and writers that are a part of the Harry Potter series who are being harmful online and John Cleese continues to tweet transphobic things in his defense of J.K. Rowling.

Complex outlined the tweets in question and how many tried to talk to Cleese online and explain why his tweets were harmful. Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness also spoke out against Cleese and Rowling for their comments, tweeting about how the trans and non-binary community is not being treated kindly and that comments like that that Cleese and Rowling are making are incredibly harmful to these individuals who are being murdered worldwide.

Here’s the thing: We should, as people, let others be who they are. There shouldn’t be this hatred that is being fueled by people like Rowling and Cleese online and yet there is and people like J.K. Rowling and John Cleese do not seem to care that they are putting the trans and non-binary community in danger by facilitating this hatred on their social media platforms.

It’s upsetting. These are writers and actors we have watched our entire lives, people we’ve looked up to and to see them furthering this hatred because they feel somehow attacked? It is hard but we need to come together as fans and show our support for the trans and non-binary communities that Rowling and Cleese are putting in danger and be there for those attacked by their words.
