Late actor Alan Rickman’s diaries will be published as a book in 2022, giving fans further insight into who the actor was beyond his movie roles.

Many of us have misgivings about embracing Harry Potter nowadays, but it’s difficult to look back on Alan Rickman’s time playing Severus Snape with anything other than fondness. The late actor was probably best known for playing the Hogwarts Potions Master, but he had a long and beloved acting career before passing away back in 2016.

Even if we’ll never get to see another stunning performance from Rickman, though, it seems we’ll get some further insight into what he was like beyond his movie roles. Per the Guardian, 27 of Rickman’s diaries will be combined and published as a book in 2022. The late actor reportedly intended to publish his entries at some point, and it seems his wish will be fulfilled.

Entitled The Diaries of Alan Rickman, the book will cover 25 years of Rickman’s life and tackle his musings on numerous subjects. (Yes, there will be some writings about making the Harry Potter movies, and we can’t wait to hear what the actor had to say about Snape.)

Regarding the book, Rickman’s widow, Rima Horton, said she’s thrilled that it’s going to be published, and that the world will get to know the man behind the actor:

"“I’m delighted that Canongate will be publishing Alan’s diaries and couldn’t have wished for a finer appointment of editor than Alan Taylor. The diaries reveal not just Alan Rickman the actor but the real Alan — his sense of humor, his sharp observation, his craftsmanship, and his devotion to the arts.”"

I don’t know about you, but I’m already tearing up just thinking about diving into this book. I’ll be counting the days until Canongate Books releases it in fall 2022.
