Let’s talk about the loners of the Harry Potter series
From Harry Potter himself to Luna Lovegood and more, there are plenty of characters throughout the series that are considered “loners” so let’s talk about them.
Harry Potter, when you break him down into separate parts, is a loner. Not because he doesn’t have friends, he does, but because he’d rather be alone than have them help him. Over and over again throughout the series, he tells Ron and Hermione that he’ll do something alone and every time they tell him that they’re not going to abandon him.
But he’s not the only loner either. Luna Lovegood is another good example. Her loneliness is different than Harry’s hero complex. She doesn’t have to push people away in order to succeed in her eyes, she just exists in her own little world and if people want to join her, they’re more than welcome to, but she isn’t going to force anyone into it.
The Harry Potter series does a pretty good job of showing us all the different aspects of how to approach loneliness and our friend groups. Harry doesn’t have to push Hermione and Ron away but does so anyway and they’re good enough of friends to know when he does actually need their help.
It’s a series of young teenagers just trying to find their way and there are times in growing up when you have to do something on your own or you are lonely but you can overcome those things. It’s part of how everyone copes and grows and it is exciting that the series gave us some different ways of viewing what are considered “loners” in the world.
