Neville Longbottom returned to teach at Hogwarts but other of his classmates chose not to. So, who decides to go back to school and who doesn’t and why? Let’s explore it!

For whatever reason, there seems to be a clear divide between students at Hogwarts over who would come back to teach at the famed school and who will never return. Why is that? What is it about Hogwarts that makes it so separated and who makes the decisions on who can come back?

The problem with the time after Hogwarts for these students is that we don’t know much about it. We know a bit of what each of these students go through after they “graduate” from Hogwarts but that’s pretty much it. So, who decides to stay and teach and who leaves?

Looking at Harry’s class, it is interesting that Neville is the one to stay behind because he is the one student, other than Hermione, who really seemed to love learning. And while Hermione being Minister of Magic seems incredible, it also would have made sense if she’d stayed and was Head Mistress of Hogwarts after McGonagall.

There are some missing pieces of the series between the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it’d be interesting to fill them in with more information about what happened once Voldemort was defeated for good this time and how Harry ended up becoming an auror.

Maybe one day we’ll get that story but, for now, Neville being the one to return to Hogwarts? Checks out.
