Getting to chose your pet for Hogwarts can be difficult to think about
With Hedwig and Scabbers and beyond, the pets of the Harry Potter series are important but why is your choice in a pet for Hogwarts so difficult to really nail down?
Bringing a pet to Hogwarts is a tradition that each student goes through. Yes, they need the pet for class but it also is a friend to keep them company, so how does one choose the type of animal they would bring to school? Well, it depends on the type of person they are.
There do not seem to be any dogs at Hogwarts, which seems questionable. Unless they are forbidden since Hagrid has two of his own? But cats, owls, rats, toads, and more all make up the pets that Hogwarts students bring with them.
Picking your own is a lot like picking your own pet in real life. That pet is going to be with you for quite a while and you have to figure out whether or not you want to commit to a dog and walking them or a cat and having to clean their litter box and so on and so forth.
That’s another part of Hogwarts that isn’t really explained: Where do all these pets go to the bathroom and live? Is it like when Hogwarts used to not have plumbing or is there something we just don’t see on screen or in the books?
Whatever the case on pets and their bathroom needs, it is important to know that picking your pet in real life is just as important as the pets we would theoretically choose at Hogwarts. They’re there for you, they love you, and they’re our constant companions. It helps if they can be a little bit magical though, right?
