The StarKid musicals do a great job of exploring the Harry Potter series but there is something about A Very Potter Sequel that masters the relationship between Harry Potter and Sirius Black.

For Sirius Black and Harry Potter, their relationship is something that fans love to come back to time and time again and A Very Potter Sequel did a great job of doing just that. While we don’t get to see much of them in the movies, the books get into the dynamic a bit more. Harry needs a father figure and Sirius needs his friend. Turning to each other, they sort of fill that hole that was lost when James and Lily Potter were taken by Voldemort.

In A Very Potter Sequel, there is a song called “Those Voices” about Harry looking into the Mirror of Esired and seeing his parents, not knowing what it means. Sirius Black emerges to talk to him about how James and Lily were his family and now he’d do everything to protect Harry.

It’s easily one of the most beautiful moments in the show but it also does a better job than the movies (and even the books) at explaining why these characters are so important to each other. They are all the other had. Yes, Sirius had Remus and Harry had Ron and Hermione but Sirius was Harry’s closest connection to his parents and Harry was Sirius’s closest connection to James. And that’s something that remains with us, as fans, and why we love this godfather/godson dynamic so much.

Next. The holidays at Hogwarts for the kids who do not get to go home. dark
