Fans have been waiting for an official premiere date for WandaVision — and it looks like the Disney+ series will arrive a little later than expected.

In a year without new Marvel movies, fans have been banking on at least one of the studio’s Disney+ series to premiere and offer some content to hold us over until blockbusters begin releasing again. WandaVision seemed the most likely to arrive this year (most had pegged December as a tentative release date), but it appears even that won’t premiere until 2021.

On the bright side, we do have a set date for when Wanda and Vision will finally grace our screens. This wacky, sitcom-inspired story will premiere on January 15, 2021, so it’s not too much later than fans anticipated. (Of course, we won’t be able to watch it for Christmas, but a Marvel marathon to prepare is still on the table!)

The news was shared from WandaVision’s official Twitter account, along with a teaser that mostly consisted of the black-and-white static so many of us have come to associate with old-school television shows.

Outside of the premiere date, we don’t know too much about the show just yet. Plot details have been kept mostly under wraps, though WandaVision is set after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The trailer hints that Wanda and Vision are unknowingly trapped in this bizarre, sitcom world, we have to assume that either Wanda’s powers have gone completely out of whack — or that some greater villain has come to claim her.

The synopsis seems to drive that sentiment home, stating:

"“Marvel Studios’ WandaVision blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.”"

Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany will return as Vision in the upcoming episodes. There will also be appearances from some other familiar faces in the MCU, including Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis.

Unfortunately, we’ve got a couple of months to wait until we have more details about this zany series. With any luck, it won’t be the only MCU show released in 2021. (We’d really love to see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier one of these days…)
