Anne Boleyn is one of the most fascinating and controversial women in history, and Jodie Turner-Smith will be bringing her to the small screen.

As historical figures go, Anne Boleyn has become one of the more fascinating women in history. Books, films, and television series have all sought to portray her tumultuous life through their narratives, and it looks like we’ll be getting another new take on her life and death — with Jodie Turner-Smith in the lead.

According to VarietyTurner-Smith will play the former Queen of England in a “three-part psychological drama,” which will no doubt tackle her rocky marriage to King Henry VIII and the years leading up to her eventual execution from her perspective.

The show is being produced by Fable Pictures (backed by Sony Pictures Television) for ViacomCBS-backed U.K. broadcaster Channel 5. Eve Hedderwick Turner will pen the script, while Lynsey Miller directs and historian Dan Jones takes on the role of executive producer.

“I am so excited to join these exciting filmmakers in bringing the story of one of history’s most controversial queens to the screen,” Turner-Smith told the outlet. “Delving deeper into Anne Boleyn’s immense strengths while examining her fatal weaknesses and vulnerabilities, Eve’s scripts immediately captured my imagination.”

It’s not immediately clear how deeply this new series will delve into Boleyn’s life. It’s possible it will take viewers back to before she was Queen, but there’s certainly enough in her three-year reign to focus solely on that. Whatever aspects of her life it chooses to cover, Fable Pictures has promised a “feminist” take on her life — which we are 110 percent here for.
