As much as we love the Harry Potter series, it’s time to admit that it isn’t that original
When you stop and look at the Harry Potter series, it’s easy to see that there are other franchises that there isn’t that much of a difference between the series we love and others.
Harry Potter and Star Wars are, in a lot of ways, the same story. An orphan boy given a purpose of bringing balance to the world once again without really knowing what to do and being trained by an older wizard? Which am I talking about?
It’s something that has always been brewing under the surface for years and now that the series is being looked at in a more critical way, we can start to call these things a bit more. Yes, these characters and the world are original but they’re also pulling from franchises we know and love well.
And honesty, there isn’t anything bad about that. It’s just pulling from things that do work and getting to see these heroes kind of connect to each other is fun. Put it’s time that we have to point out that the series is a lot like others that we know and love.
Because holding it up on a pedestal and not talking critically about it has made it feel as if we can’t talk about the series without praising it. So getting to point these things out and talk them through makes us actually start to break down different aspects of the series and that’s important to do.
Maybe the Harry Potter series pulled from other franchises and maybe not but either way, it’s something we love and getting to connect it to other franchises is fun!
