Why the Marauders are some of the most important characters in the Harry Potter series
Sirius, James, Remus, and even Peter are some of the most important characters of the Harry Potter series but why is that the case? Why do we love the Marauders most?
The Marauders are an important part of the Harry Potter series. Yes, for the character of Harry but also for fans. For so many of us, we didn’t get to see anyone from the past of James and Lily who didn’t either glorify them or absolutely hate them (like Snape). So when their actual friends came into Harry’s life, we got an interesting look at how James Potter and Lily Evans lived their lives.
The betrayal that James and Lily faced with Peter Pettigrew is something that stayed throughout the rest of the series. Learning that Sirius Black went to jail despite being there for his friends? It hurt to know that these two friends (Sirius and Remus) wanted nothing more than just being there for their friends and then Peter turned James and Lily over to Voldemort and resulted in their deaths.
So learning about the Marauders and getting to explore the world they lived in and their friendship is important to fans of the series because we could explore the world prior to Harry having to live with the Dursleys. We got to see who his parents wanted to be around and who they trusted.
We also got a look at the people Harry could have grown up knowing had Peter not betrayed his parents. There could have been so much more of Harry getting to talk with Sirius and Remus and getting to know them and that’s why many fans turn to them.
