How will Lena Luthor’s story end in Supergirl season 6?

If Alex has had the most character development, then Lena is the character who has been most traumatized throughout the show. Always struggling to set herself apart from her brother and rid the Luthor name of shame, Lena had the best of intentions ever since she stepped foot in National City. One of the smartest characters in the Arrowverse, Lena has been instrumental in aiding Supergirl and her team in some of the series’ biggest battles.

However, season 5 saw Lena go off the rails a little. After killing her brother, but not before he could reveal that Kara was Supergirl, there was a huge wedge put in between Lena and the rest of the heroes. Her feelings were hurt that no one bothered to tell her the truth, even though Kara did after the fact. A newly resurrected Lex took advantage of the rift, manipulating Lena into helping him with yet another one of his nefarious schemes. It took almost the entire season for Lena to see what was happening and attempt to make amends with Kara.

No way around this; Lena needs therapy in season 6. It would be a great way to give both her and Kelly an actual storyline together, but if it isn’t Kelly, it needs to be someone. She needs someone to help sort her feelings out and to reconcile her family’s latest betrayal with what she has done to her best friend. We need to see scenes of Lena and Kara discussing what happened between them and working on rebuilding their friendship.

Ultimately, it seems likely that Lena, after making up with Kara, will leave National City, either to join Sam in Metropolis or starting over fresh in Gotham. Either of which leaves plenty of doors open for the spectacular Katie McGrath to reprise her role down the road.
