How will Alex Danvers’ story end in Supergirl season 6?

At the end of season 5, we see Alex embrace her new destiny as a costumed vigilante (despite the fact that this goes everything against she said she wanted two seasons ago) — another one of those “uneven” parts of the series. Alex arguably has had the most character development since the beginning of the series, largely in part to her coming out storyline during season 2.

Chyler Leigh delivered a powerhouse, nuanced performance detailing her character’s inner struggle with her sexuality and again in the following season when she realized that she wanted kids, but her fiancee, Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima), didn’t. Alex was even prepared to leave her position with the DEO in order to have a child, but J’onn convinced her to stay on to take his place as Director.

This all would’ve been fine if there had been any movement toward Alex’s quest to be a mother since. She was approved to be an adoptive parent, but then nothing ever materialized from it. Now, she is putting her life back in danger, so is the desire to be a parent gone? If it is, they need to bring Maggie back. If it isn’t, then Alex needs to settle down with Kelly, retire from her everyday heroics, and call it a day. A wedding between herself and Kelly would also be a great way to bring back former cast members for a one-off episode towards the end of the series.

With the possibility of J’onn’s imminent departure from Earth, Alex could also easily take over his private investigation gig. This would provide stability and safety for her home life, as well as still keep her in the good fight.
