Why is Sirius Black a character that so many fans of the Harry Potter series cling to?
Of all the characters in the Harry Potter series for us to love, many love Sirius Black who was only present for three books. So why is he a favorite among us?
Sirius Black was there for Harry Potter in a way no one else was because Sirius knew his parents and knew what it was like to miss them. He was struggling just like Harry was and they could be there for each other. Which is probably why fans of the series love Sirius Black so much.
He’s a character who has struggled, who was never really part of anything other than the Marauders and having his friends by his side meant something to him. And then it was all ripped away from him because of something that Peter Pettigrew did and he was forced to re-examine himself, his life, and what it was like to go on without his friends.
Luckily though, Harry came along and he would need Sirius Black just as much as Sirius needed him and together, they’d start to heal. It was beautiful but so brief and it left so many of us wanting more for both Sirius and Harry. It’s a sad story and that’s part of the reason why we go back to it time and time again.
Sirius Black deserved so much more than he got and it is probably why we, as fans, go back over and over and try to find moments where he had a bit of happiness laid out before him. It’s sad but it’s also a beautiful way to look at his story.
