Draco Malfoy is a good way of looking at how you can break free of the ideas your parents feed you
There are many sad characters in the Harry Potter series but Draco Malfoy is also a good character to look at to realize that your parents views are not your own and you can break free from them.
Draco Malfoy, for the better part of the Harry Potter series, did whatever his parents told him to. If Lucius told him to answer to Voldemort, he did. If he was presented with something to do with the Dark Arts, he did it. Because that’s what he was told and what he knew.
But as the series went on, Draco started to realize that he was different from his parents. He didn’t want to be responsible for Dumbledore’s death. He didn’t want to be a Death Eater like his parents and he slowly broke free from them and went on to care more for his son than his parents ever did for him.
And that’s honestly a really beautiful thing to look at because so many kids grow up learning from their parents and doing exactly what their parents say or do and never break free. And right now, with political tensions around the world so high, it’s nice to look at a character like Draco and see how you can be different from those who raised you.
You don’t have to make their same choices and you don’t have to believe what they do. You can change and make your own choices and that’s a beautiful thing to remember and it’s lovely that Draco Malfoy gave that to us all.
