The second season of buzzy Apple TV period comedy Dickinson isn’t even slated to hit our screens until January, but fans of the offbeat series can rest easy – it’s already been renewed for Season 3.
The first season of show, which stars Hailee Steinfeld as a young version of the famous American poet Emily Dickinson, was a genuine word-of-mouth hit for new streaming platform Apple TV+, building a modest but extremely loyal and vocal audience online . (Though Dickinson’s sister series The Morning Show is the one that snagged all the Emmy nominations earlier this year.)
The advance renewal means that the show is officially the first Apple TV+ series to make it to three seasons.
Dickinson is a deeply entertaining mix of gender politics, anachronistic plot twists, and modern-day musical cues that nevertheless manages to put a whole new spin on one of history’s greatest – and likely most misunderstood – poets. Though history tends to remember Emily Dickinson as a sad, housebound recluse who only published a handful of poems within her lifetime, this a show that kicks those ideas to the curb.
Instead, Dickinson gives us an Emily who is both fully aware of her own genius and cognizant of the unfair and misogynistic rules that govern the world she lives in. Yet, she is also still allowed to exist as a young girl in the world of the show, with all the silliness, hubris and poor judgement that comes along with that.
I mean, this is a show that has cast Wiz Kalifa as the embodiment of Death. I don’t know how else to sell it to you.

Given that most every studio is still trying to figure out what filming and production timelines look like in the time of COVID, we have no idea when Dickinson season 3 will be produced or when we’re most likely to see it. But, at least we’ll have season 2 to help tide us over, which officially arrives on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Are you looking forward to more Dickinson? What do you hope Seasons 2 and 3 will bring? Let us know.
