With the ownership of the Marvel Netflix characters’ rights reverting back to Disney, now is the perfect time to introduce Heroes for Hire into the MCU.

With the recent news that the rights to Marvel’s Netflix shows, starting with Iron Fist, are beginning to revert back to Disney, there is a perfect way to reintroduce them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Heroes for Hire.

Almost all of Marvel’s Netflix series were a hit with fans and critics alike, which is something that Disney would be smart to hold on to. The deal between Netflix and Disney was that the rights for the characters in all of the series would revert back following a two-year period from the time the last episodes were released. So, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Punisher would be first (since they only lasted two seasons each), and Daredevil and Jessica Jones would be last, as those shows made it to three seasons.

Former Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick also recently confirmed that there had been discussion of Netflix doing a Daughters of the Dragon spin-off centered around Henwick’s Colleen Wing and Simone Missick’s Misty Knight, which never came to fruition as a result of the cancellation of all of Marvel’s Netflix shows.

The onscreen chemistry between Henwick and Missick was one of the highlights of the overall Defenders series, ensuring a Daughters of the Dragon show would likely have been as successful as its predecessors. (This was also something fans had been clamoring for.)

In fact, the chemistry between all of the leads was palpable and there is a way to not let that go waste: By creating a Heroes for Hire television series. There is precedence in the comic book world, as Luke and Iron Fist created a private investigation team that included other street-level heroes such as Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Black Cat, Ant-Man, and White Tiger.

A Heroes for Hire series could serve as a grittier alternative to Disney’s overall PG-13 Marvel fare and could easily become the MCU’s version of Amazon’s ratings juggernaut, The Boys. An investigative team that includes Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, Misty Knight, and Jessica Jones would be a perfect combination for the small screen. And there’s certainly enough story left to be told involving all of these standout characters. Since the series would be darker than its usual offerings, Disney could have the show produced and streamed through Hulu, if necessary.

Ultimately, it would be a shame to not do something with these fan-favorite characters, so hopefully, Disney proves smarter than that. Though there have also been rumors about some of the characters appearing in the MCU down the line, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. The fact that most of the actors have moved on to other projects also presents a challenge, but the overwhelming majority of them have expressed interest in returning to their MCU characters.
